modern blogging for the practical librarian
In an effort to reorganize and become more efficient! and effective!, the Center I work for took over half of our library with the intention of turning it into work spaces, and our storage area was given to another department. A storage area that was filled with lots and lots of books. Books my supervisor now wants to sell. Books I'm typing up into a list for that purpose.
One book I came across was Modern Mathematics for the Practical Man, published 1963. Even better, it's a whole series: Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry and Calculus. All for the Practical Man. Apparently the practical woman is not in need of modern mathematics. Or any mathematics. No, she's stuck working with the ol' abacus. But at least it will match the pearl necklace all those pregnant housewives wore while barefoot in the kitchen.
Also, in a Freudian-slip-of-the-fingers, when I typed in an author's last name "Hickinbottom," it came out "Kickinbottom." I was way more amused by it than probably warranted.
