Well, eventually I pulled myself out of my depression and came to terms to my other psychological.

There was no magic spell or sudden event that changed me. I wasn't in a sappy movie. Can't even say the love of a good woman cured me, since this was before I met my wonderful wife.

No, what did it was years of therapy, the right medication, and me working through my problems. Little by little, with years of long and hard work.

It wasn't fun, but it was worth it. Made me a better person. Rather have not gone through it, but didn't have much of a choice in the matter.

Warning: The post for the next couple of weeks will be dark and get darker. I had some issues in my life. But like any good story, our hero has to go through his trials and tribulations before he triumphs. I triumphed I have.

In school, I was a big, shy, quiet nerd. Know it's hard to believe. The quiet, shy part obviously, not the nerd part!

So this song really touches me. It actually made me teary-eyed the first time I heard it. But the sad thing is that I was on both sides of this story and did the same thing.

But I don't regret my nerd past. It wasn't always fun, but a number of good things came out. I realized that it's okay, and actually a lot of fun, to get excited about stuff, even stuff other people don't get! And it taught me to sympathesize and appreciate society's rejects and underdogs.

So I wear my nerd badge proudly!

ENTERTAINMENT - 7 Post-Punk And New Wave Rock Stars Reimagined As Superheroes

As a child of the 80's I was heavily influenced by everything from Saturday morning cartoons on TV to the music coming from the radio. Ian Curtis or Johnny Rotten are as iconic to me as Superman or Batman. Real people or imaginary characters, the incorruptible ideals of perfect superheroes or the human flaws and desires sometimes so desperately depicted in song lyrics - all of those influences affect us to the point of defining our character and personality, career paths and life choices.

The references we are exposed and specifically the ones we choose to absorb make us who we are.
